Product Description

The flowers of Cocos nucifera (coconut) are traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to aid women in recovering from postnatal changes. In Kerala, a preparation called Thengin Pookula Lehyam, made from the coconut flower, is widely used as part of postnatal care.

Sitaram Thengin Pookula Lehyam is a herbal postnatal care tonic enriched with the nutrients of the coconut flower. The Thengin Pookula in this preparation provides ample nutrients that contribute to long-lasting health and replenish the nutrients for the mother. This remedy helps mothers recover from various health changes after delivery, prevents and cures back pain commonly experienced by mothers post-delivery, and supports breast milk production.

Features & Benefits of Thengin Pookkula lehyam –

  • Coconut inflorescence is found to have distinct action in the low back region. Women who have delivered often experience instability and pain in the low back region. This recipe is an important part of the postnatal regimen in Kerala, which gradually restores strength, muscle tone and stability to the lower back and associated structures.
  • The rich base of the astringent juice of coconut inflorescence combined with the and creamy milk of coconuts forms the nourishing sweet base of this Avaleha preparation. Pregnancy, delivery and lactation are all conditions that place heavy demand on the Dhatus (functional tissues) in the female body. Heavy menstrual bleeding is also a similar demand.
  • There is a need for Rasayana or rejuvenative therapy to make up for the Dhatu kshaya or depletion. Avaleha Kalpana has rejuvenative effect derived from these ingredients, Madhura dravya (sweetening agents) and Sneha dravyas (oil/ fat ingredients). Hence it caters to the increased energy demands in these women.
  • The ingredients work in synergy to stimulate and sustain lactation in nursing mothers. Thengin Pookkula lehyam also improves the quality of the mother’s milk.
  • The Thengin Pookkula lehyam formula is a potent uterine tonic. It restores the uterine tone and elasticity post-delivery.
  • Processed with appetite-stimulating and digestive ingredients, the avaleha may be partaken as a light and wholesome meal in individuals with suitable digestive capacity.

COCONUT INFLORESCENCE & MILK (Cocos nucifera)

Styptic, Astringent and Cooling, the opaque milk-like liquid brings about nourishment to the body and restores optimum health to the spine and associated structures. Octanoic acid, which has antifungal properties, is one of the major active constituents of Coconut. It also contains Vitamins E and K and minerals such as iron. Polyphenols, such as gallic acid, gives the fruit its fragrance and taste. Coconut is helpful in treating urinogenital disorders.

MEDHIKA – Fenugreek seeds (Trigonella foenum)

Fenugreek is a natural source of protein, which rebuilds and strengthens the hair shaft. It reduces hair fall and promotes hair growth. A C-steroidal sapogenin peptide ester, fenugreekine, exhibits hypoglycemic activity (European Journal of Pharmacology, 390, 2000). The saponin-rich extracts reduce cholesterol levels. The fibrous fraction of the seeds also causes a reduction in blood lipids. Fenugreek extract containing trigonelline and trigonellic acid is used as a hair growth stimulant. Recent studies indicate that the herb contains lecithin, a natural emollient known to strengthen and moisturize hair.

SATHAPUSHPA – Indian dill (Anethum sowa)

The plant is a source of protein, carbohydrate, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, sodium and potassium. It also contains a small amount of riboflavin, niacin and zinc. These constituents give the herb its therapeutic properties. As a digestive, carminative and stomachic, Indian Dill is beneficial in treating gastrointestinal disorders. Its seeds treat various digestive problems, while the essential oil extracted from the seeds may relieve intestinal spasms and gripe

AJAMODA – Celery ( Apium graveolens)

It is also a rich source of Vitamin C, which boosts the immune system. Celery seeds are credited with stimulant and carminative properties and are prescribed for nervine disorders. Cineole, borneol, limonene, alpha-pinene and beta-phellandrene have antibacterial properties. Linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) reduce the cholesterol deposition along the inner walls of the arteries and veins. The herb promotes the proper secretion of hormones, which regulate the menstrual cycle and reduce cramps.

KALAJIRA/KALAJAJI – Black cumin (Nigella sativum)

The seeds, after steam distillation, give off a yellowish-brown volatile oil with an unpleasant odor. The oil contains the carvone, d-limonene, and a carbonyl compound, nigellone. The seed oil has antibacterial, insecticidal, bronchiodilatory, hypotensive and immune-stimulant properties. It contains nourishing amino acids such as cysteine, lysine, valine and leucine. The seed contains saponins, which have cleansing properties. The herb also has analgesic properties, which depress the central nervous system. Black Cumin aids digestion and relieves flatulence.

Winter Cherry has proven anti-inflammatory activity, which helps in the management of inflammatory joint disorders.

MUSTHA – Nut grass ( Cyperus rotundus)

Cyprine is the major constituent in the plant, which gives Nut Grass its pharmacological properties. Nut Grass is beneficial in treating nausea and digestive problems. It is used as an analgesic for menstruation pains. The herb has a positive effect on the liver, facilitating its detoxification and treatment.

USEERA – Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides)

Major constituents of the essential oil of Khas-Khas are vetiselinenol and khusimol, which render the herb its pharmacological properties. Khas-Khas is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders like flatulence and indigestion.

AMALAKI – Indian gooseberry (Embilica officinalis)

Emblic officinalis is highly nutritious and is an important dietary source of Vitamin C, minerals and amino acids. The dominant active constituent of the herb is a group of tannins derived from Gallic and ellagic acids, which make up a large portion of the extractable non-nutritive constituents. All of these constituents work together to enhance immunity, rejuvenate skin, combat premature aging and hyperacidity.

HAREETHAKI – Chebulic myrobalan (Terminalia chebula)

Chebulagic, chebulinic acid and corilagin are the principal constituents, which render the herb its therapeutic property. Chebulic Myrobalan is used to treat flatulence, dysentery, diarrhea and constipation.

TILATAILA – Sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum)

Gingelly oil is a rich source of copper, magnesium, calcium and zinc, which contribute to the therapeutic benefits of the herb. The oil of Gingelly is revered for its many therapeutic benefits.
